Hi,
I apologise if this is the wrong list for this question but there was no
FAQ which points to the
current implementation of Atrpms macros for kmdls including the RHEL
bits. If they are available
publicly and free to use could someone please let me know the URL for
the most
up-to-date version?
I have read the discussions on the fedora lists and was disappointed
that the kmdl implementation
(or at least some of the suggestions and questions it raised) were not
adopted/pursued by Fedora.
As a sysadmin of multiple linux RHEL4 systems, many of which require
external device drivers (or
more recent versions than available with vendor kernels), I have a great
need for this facility.
Until recently I have been using kmod. I now plan to switch to kmdl (if
possible) as I require the
facility of having multiple kernels installed (in case the newest one
fails) with the capability to
update the device drivers independently of the kernel.
This is particularly the case for IBM's ServeRAID, Qlogic's HBA adaptors
and some Broadcom
Nic's. In fact, IBM makes a point of not providing support for their
products if their most recent
kernel driver is not used (and matched to the firmware level of the
device).
This makes the facilities provided by kmdl quite important and very
useful. Please note I have
read Axel's website on Fedora about kmdl but the macros there do not
contain the RHEL bits which
I need.
I hope you can assist. Thanks in advance,
Best Regards,
Brett
