MPlayer is easier. You just need to download the source  from the svn
repository and pack it as a .tar.gz or .bz2. The current ATrpms spec file is
for an svn version, anyway.

mplayer is the only package I always rebuild myself because I change some
compilation options.

But my favorite is vlc. This one is really a maze to make it work.
