[ATrpms-devel] i2c-kmdl, lm_sensors-kmdl

In some of the older operating systems, Fedora Core 1 and RHEL 3
there were rpms of the form i2c-kmdl and lm_sensors-kmdl
These were, if I understand correctly, kernel modules that could
be loaded on top of the enterprise linux kernel to get the
latest version of lm_sensors and i2c.
These don't seem to exist for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 anymore,
although they once did.
Lm_sensors list says it can't be done, there is no way to get lm_sensors
2.10.x patched or loaded over top of a 2.6.9 kernel, which includes
lm_sensors 2.8.7 by default.
Why did the idea of having separate drivers rpm kernel module for
lm_sensors go away? Can it still be done in theory?
i.e. if I compile all the modules in the lm_sensors 2.10.x tree
could they be loaded in a 2.6.x series kernel or do they only work
with 2.4 kernels now.
(Please copy my private E-mail as I am not on this list)
