Sounds like 0.19. So the issue is quite old: Since it hasn't been
cross-reported by other people it doesn't look like some global
bug. Have you tried reinstalling all from scrratch to remove any
possible misconfigurations?

I can't answer that. I just recently switched to gnome after using
fvwm for 12 years. :)

mythtv builds natively against the lirc libs, I don't think irexec is
involved. But the bugs that hit irexec may hit mythtv as
yet-another-lirc-client, so fixing that may fix the mythtv issues,
too.
