[ATrpms-devel] mythtv (was lirc)

Hi, Axel

the problem with lirc seems to be "irexec". Programs called by it may
receive some garbage.
Programs with native lirc support work.
I think somehow mythtv is still using "irexec". Anyway, I do not use the
remote that much.

I notice that mythtv, when using the OpenGL gui, clips all the texts from
main menus, if
either a small window is used (instead of full screen) or when using
xinerama.
In that case, the only fix is go back to QT.

Another point is that mplayer does not load subtitles for avi files after it
is started.
Therefore, I wrote a bash script for loading subtitles based on a naming
convention.
The movie is called something as my.movie.CD1.avi and the subtitles
my.movie.CD1.EN.srt (or .sub).
my.movie.CD1.PT.srt, my.movie.CD1.ES.srt, etc... The script loads all
subtitles available and they can be
switched during playback by the "j" key.
In case of a .rar with no text subtitles, my.movie.CD1.rar is expected. It
must be used rar <= 2.9 fpr compressing,
and the files in it (.sub and .idx) should follow the same name convention.

Also, to pass some options to the script without going to mythtv interface,
I assume if there is
an empty file called "xvid" in the movie directory, for instance, it will be
added "-vc xvid" before playing. It is also possible
to create files "xvid4" and "nocache" for adding these options. Also, pls
files, with a list of avi's to be played, or tox files
are accepted. In the later case, xine is going to be called.

To use the second screen (TV) in xinerama mode to play the movie,
it is only necessary to add "-xineramascreen 1" to the "option" variable in
the script.
Since I do not know if people use xinerama or not, I did not added it yet.

Well, I think the script can be useful, and maybe someone else from the list
could improve it
(I do not master bash). One point should be the treatment for all language
codes. The present version
only treats EN, PT and ES.

This is the contribution I can give for mythtv. You really did an amazing
job packing
all these rpms. Those who succeed configuring mythtv will have a very useful
toy at the end.

Thanks,

/Paulo Roma.
