Indeed even mplayer doesn't directly need it (?). I just scanned the FC5
specfiles of ATrpms and only came up with

# grep BuildRequires.*ffmpeg .repository*/*/fc5/*.spec
.repository.multimedia/libquicktime/fc5/libquicktime.spec:BuildRequires: alsa-lib-devel, ffmpeg-devel
.repository.multimedia/transcode/fc5/transcode.spec:BuildRequires: ffmpeg-devel >= 0.4.9

Some libs may be recursively linked against, so one needs to do some
more searching. Bot libquicktime and transcode are used by a couple
more projects at ATrpms.
