I have just upgraded my kernel. Your new yum plugin downloaded all the
modules
and everything has been installed. It is a success, I checked, and the
versions are correct.
So, I did not touch anything and reboot.

However, nvidia driver did not load. So, I had to recompile  it and reboot
again.
This time everything was fine. All the other modules are working: lirc,
spca5xx, etc.

Maybe you should check nividia driver again:

nvidia-graphics8762-kmdl-2.6.17-1.2174_FC5smp-1.0_8762-74.fc5.at.i686.rpm

By the way,  I know you do not like yum. But why smart for Fedora 5 does not
use all the channels? Mine, only lists atrpms, extras, fedoralegacyupdates,
release, rpm-db and updates.
On the other hand, fedora 4 lists all of the channels. And second, why does
synaptic change the name of the packages?
It replaces some - for _ in the rpm name.

I upgraded yum for fedora 4 to 2.6.1. It works great. I use your plugin,
protectbase, etc...
Do you intend to do the same thing for ATrpms? I am not saying people should
use fedora 4.
I am replacing all of my computers for fedora 5, but yum 2.6.1 is much
better...
