Do you have nvidia-graphics-devices installed? Any sign of
/dev/nvidia* nodes?
What nvidia driver are you running on 2.4.20-37_40.rh7.3.at? 7174,
e.g. the same as failing for 2.4.20-43_41.rh7.3.at?
Also check /var/log/XFree86.0.log (or similar), this has to contain
the error for your aborting X session.
